What we all agree to

The Ten Principles

Larry Harvey wrote these in 2004, not as rules but as a description of how this community already behaved. They are why the city works, and they are the reason we run this business the way we do.

  1. Radical Inclusion

Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger, and no prerequisites exist for participation.

  2. Gifting

Burning Man is devoted to acts of gift giving. The value of a gift is unconditional — it does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal worth.

  3. Decommodification

To preserve the spirit of gifting, the community seeks to create social environments unmediated by commercial sponsorship, transaction or advertising.

  4. Radical Self-reliance

Burning Man encourages the individual to discover, exercise and rely on their own inner resources.

  5. Radical Self-expression

Self-expression arises from the unique gifts of the individual. No one other than the individual or a collaborating group can determine its content.

  6. Communal Effort

Our community values creative cooperation. We strive to produce, promote and protect the social networks, public spaces and works of art that support it.

  7. Civic Responsibility

We value civil society. Community members who organize events assume responsibility for public welfare and for communicating civic responsibilities to participants.

  8. Leaving No Trace

We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and leave places in a better state than we found them.

  9. Participation

Ours is a radically participatory ethic. We believe that transformative change happens only through the personal participation of each of us.

  10. Immediacy

Immediate experience is the most important touchstone of value in our culture. No idea can substitute for it.

Who we are

Welcome home.

We're local Burners. We grew up making the drive out to the playa, and we've watched this city rise and vanish more times than we can count. The burn is deep in our roots — and by now, the people who build it every year feel like family.

We started this business for one simple reason: getting out to the playa shouldn't be the hardest part of going. We handle the trailer, the gear and the logistics, so your energy goes into the week itself instead of into a packing list.

We're based right here in Reno — the last stop before the playa, and the first one on the way out. Whether this is your first burn or your fifteenth, we'll make the journey home an easy one.

See you out there.— the crew at Trailers on Playa LLC

The fleet

Three trailers. Pick the one that fits your crew.

Every one is dust-sealed, self-contained and prepped by us before it leaves Reno. Prices are for the full event week with cleaning included, and the deposits and everything not included are on each trailer's page — we would rather you see the whole number now than be surprised later.

Just need bikes?

You do not have to rent a trailer to rent from us. Fat tire and electric bikes go out on their own, cleaned, tuned and locked. Pickup and return at our Reno property.

Not sure which one? Size by how many people need a real bed, then check the fresh water capacity against your headcount — that is the spec people underestimate.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises

You are never quoted a mystery number, and nothing is charged until you have seen the full price in writing.

  1. 01

    Pick your trailer

Every trailer lists its real price, full specs and current availability. No quote required to see a number.

  2. 02

    Add exactly what you need

Bikes, water, food, shade, bedding, shipping. Build the package à la carte instead of paying for a bundle you will not use.

  3. 03

    Get a custom quote

We price your add-ons and send it back within 24 hours. Nothing is charged until you accept.

  4. 04

    We handle the rest

Delivery, placement, setup and post-event pickup. You show up to a trailer that is already level, cold and ready.

Why rent from us

A rental company that has actually been out there

Everything below exists because of something that went wrong for somebody in a previous year.

  • Built for the playa, not for a campground

Every trailer is dust-sealed before it goes out, with seals, vents and slide-out gaskets treated. A standard RV rental is not prepared for alkali dust, which is exactly why most rental contracts forbid taking one here.

  • À la carte, not bundles

You should not pay for six camp chairs because they were stapled to a package. Pick the line items you actually want and we quote just those.

  • Ship your gear ahead

Send your boxes to Reno and we load them into the trailer before handoff. Fly in with a carry-on instead of driving a loaded truck across the country.

  • One party per trailer, per year

We do not turn trailers around mid-event. What you see available is genuinely available, and once it is booked it is gone.

Rare in this market

Ship your gear to Reno. We load it for you.

Send your costumes, dry goods, shade hardware and camp decor to our receiving address any time after July 1. We log every package, confirm each arrival, and load everything into your trailer before you take handoff. Fly into Reno, pick up the trailer, and your gear is already on board.

The fine print, up front

Deposits, fees and cancellation

Surprise fees are the most common complaint in rental reviews, so here is the whole picture before you inquire rather than after.

To secure the booking

Half the rental price

Due the day you book, and non-refundable. Until it is paid the trailer stays available to anyone else.

Security deposit

$2,500

Refundable. Held against damage, trash, excessive mess and missing equipment, and returned after the post-event inspection.

Cleaning

Included

No separate cleaning fee. The deep dust-out every trailer needs is already in the rental price.

Cancellation

The remaining half is due 60 days before gates open, charged together with the refundable security deposit.

  • 60+ days before gates open

You lose the half you paid to book

The balance has not been charged yet, so there is nothing further to pay and nothing further to lose.

  • Under 60 days before gates open

The full rental price is non-refundable

By this point the balance has been charged. The refundable security deposit is not part of this and comes back to you.

Never included in any rental

  • Burning Man event ticket
  • Vehicle pass
  • Tow vehicle (unless you add delivery)
  • Fuel and propane top-offs beyond what the trailer leaves with
  • Ice
  • Your own bedding unless you add the linens package

Questions

The things people ask us most

What is included in the rental price?

The price shown on each trailer page covers the trailer for the full event week, dust-sealed and prepped, with the fresh water tank filled, a starting propane tank, a basic kitchen kit, a setup walkthrough at handoff, and post-event pickup and cleaning. There is no separate cleaning fee — it is in the price, not on top of it. It does not include your event ticket, vehicle pass, tow vehicle, or add-ons.

Can I rent for just a few nights?

No. We rent by the event week, not by the night. Every trailer is one flat rate for the full week and the price does not drop if you arrive late or leave early — the work of sealing, towing, placing and collecting a trailer is the same either way. The flip side is that going in early costs nothing extra: if you are there for build week on your own Work Access Pass, those nights are already covered by the same price. Every booking ends on the Monday following the Temple burn, and if you need a little longer than that we would rather you asked us than guessed.

How does add-on pricing work?

Add-ons are quoted individually rather than sold at a fixed rate, because the right answer depends on your headcount, your camp placement and how long you are staying. You pick what you want on the build page, we send a custom quote within 24 hours, and nothing is charged until you accept it.

Do I need a tow vehicle?

Only if you plan to tow the trailer yourself. Each trailer page lists the tow rating required. If you do not have a suitable vehicle, add delivery and placement to your build and we will tow the trailer to your camp address, level it and set it up, then collect it after the event.

What deposits do you require?

Half the rental price is due the day you book, and that payment is what actually secures the trailer — until it clears, the trailer stays available to anyone else. It is non-refundable. The remaining half is due 60 days before gates open, charged together with the $2,500 refundable security deposit, which is held against damage to the trailer, trash left in the trailer, a trailer left excessively dirty, items missing from the trailer and returned after the post-event inspection. There is no cleaning fee on top of any of it — the post-event clean is already in the rental price.

How do I actually secure a trailer?

By paying half the rental price. That is the only thing that takes a trailer off the market — an inquiry does not, an accepted quote does not, and neither does a verbal yes. We rent each trailer to one party per event, so until that payment clears we will keep talking to anyone else who asks about it, and whoever pays first has it. The remaining half is due 60 days before gates open. If you are deciding between trailers, tell us and we will tell you honestly whether anyone else is circling the one you want.

What is your cancellation policy?

What you have paid is what you forfeit. 60+ days before gates open: you lose the half you paid to book. The balance has not been charged yet, so there is nothing further to pay and nothing further to lose. Under 60 days before gates open: the full rental price is non-refundable. By this point the balance has been charged. The refundable security deposit is not part of this and comes back to you. We do not offer credits, partial refunds or transfers to another year. We rent each trailer to one party per event, so a trailer you booked is a trailer we turned other people away from — by the time most cancellations happen, there is no one left to re-rent it to.

Is dust damage taken out of my security deposit?

No, and there is no cleaning fee either — the deep dust-out every trailer needs is already in the rental price. Playa dust is the condition we expect every trailer back in, and we do not charge anyone for it. The $2,500 security deposit covers four things: damage to the trailer, trash left in the trailer, a trailer left excessively dirty, items missing from the trailer. Dusty is fine. Full of trash is not. Empty the trailer out and take your rubbish with you and the deposit is returned in full after the post-event inspection.

Do I need a mid-week dump and water fill?

On our trailers, yes — treat it as mandatory rather than optional. The tanks are small enough that a week of normal use will fill the gray and black tanks and empty the fresh one well before you leave. We do not arrange or resell this service, but licensed pump-out and water trucks operate inside the city every year and you book them directly. Arrange it before you arrive, because they fill up fast once the event starts. Gray water cannot be dumped on the playa under any circumstances.

Can I ship gear to you before the event?

Yes, two ways. You can pack and ship your own boxes with any carrier we accept, or you can buy what you need on Amazon and set our receiving address as the delivery address — Amazon is the only retailer we take a direct shipment from, and anything arriving from another website will be refused. Either way, add shipping to your booking and we send you the receiving address along with a package reference that is unique to you; we do not publish the address, so wait until you have it from us before sending anything. From July 1 we hold your packages and load them into your trailer before handoff. Everything must arrive by August 20, and we accept up to 20 packages per rental at up to 50 lbs each. One thing to plan for: the packaging is your MOOP. We do not unbox orders or dispose of cartons, so keep the number of shipments down, and anything left in the trailer at pickup comes out of the security deposit as trash left in the trailer.

Can I rent bikes without renting a trailer?

Yes. Bikes go out on their own — there is no trailer booking required and no minimum. Pick what you want on our bike rental page and collect them from our Reno property on your way through; they come back to the same place afterwards. We do not deliver bikes to the playa or collect them from it, so you do need to be driving through Reno. If you are renting one of our trailers as well, add the bikes inside the trailer build instead: they go out with the trailer and come back with it, so there is nothing to collect either way.

What happens after I submit an inquiry?

You get a reference number immediately. We review your trailer and add-on selections and send a custom quote within 24 hours. If you accept, we send a payment link and the rental agreement. The trailer is not held until half the rental price is paid.

Ready to stop worrying about shelter?

Pick a trailer, build your package, and we will have a full quote back to you within 24 hours. No payment required to get a number.
